Assistant Professor Kimball Clark

Dr. Clark has been a member of the School of Sciences faculty since 2005.  He earned his bachelor of science degree from Brigham Young University in 1981.   In 1984, he completed his masters and his Ph.D. in 2009 both from the University of Iowa. To learn more about Dr. Clark, read the responses below to a set of questions we recently asked him.

How long have you been attending at Rio?
Since Fall of 2005.

Over the years how many different courses in the School of Sciences have you taught?

Approximately 25 distinct courses in Physics, Computer Science, and Mathematics.

What is your favorite course to teach at Rio…and why?
General Physics with Calculus because of its applications to what one sees day to day.
In your discipline, what individual (or two or three) would you most like to spend a day with so you could pick their brain?  (You can choose someone no longer walking the planet…) Isaac Newton, Archimedes, Einstein.

What is your favorite food? 
Whatever my wife cooks.

What is your favorite all-time movie (or two)? 
Lord of The Rings (all three)

What is your favorite hobby/past-time activity?
Reading or listening to a good fiction novel.

If you were not a “Physicist”, what would you like to do as a profession—disregarding whether it paid more or less than what you are making now?
Probably an Electrical Engineer

Describe the one aspect of teaching you like the least.  (Preparing exams and/or quizzes? Grading?  Preparing a syllabus?  Developing a new course?  Lectures?  Labs?  Other?)
Grading lab reports.

What century did your earn your B.S. degree in?
20th Century

What set of circumstances resulted in your becoming a physicist? 
I enjoyed high school physics immensely and thought Physics would be a great way to serve my fellowmen.

If you could choose to live anywhere else on this planet (i.e., not counting Rio Grande), where would it be and why? 
Somewhere cool and dry and where there is not much traffic and very little crime. And it has to have the internet.

Sleeping through the night and waking up without aches and pains.
