Rio to host 15th annual Health Fair

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The annual University of Rio Grande Health Fair showcases the rich tradition of community service and engagement the institution proudly champions throughout Southeastern Ohio.
Since the inaugural Health Fair in 1999, Rio Grande and its Nursing students have provide a multitude of free screenings, information and door prizes through partnerships with local vendors to help insure the continued good health of the region.
The 2013 Health Fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 in Conference Room C of the Davis University Center located on the Rio Grande campus.
“The annual Health Fair is a wonderful opportunity for the entire community with so many valuable resources and services in one location on the Rio Grande campus,” said Dr. Donna Mitchell, College of Health & Behavioral Sciences Dean. “The Health Fair simply promotes good health ad wellness at every level, and it is a tradition of which each of us within the Health Care profession are extremely proud.”
Free screenings offered at the Health Fair include total cholesterol, non-faster blood glucose, blood pressure, pulmonary function testing and bone density. Also available free to fair attendees are Zumba lessons from Deb Adkins and messages from Mark Hasseman of The Kneaded Touch Massage Therapist.
Attendees also will be eligible for a variety of door prizes ranging from restaurant gift cards, glucometers, car care accessories, candles and much more.
The Health Fair is hosted by Rio’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Community Health students. Outside vendors scheduled to participate include: Abbyshire Place, Area Agency on Aging, Family Oxygen and Medical Equipment, Gallia Jackson Meigs Board of Alchol and Mental Health, Gallia County Health Department, Gallia County Help Me Grow, Gallia County WIC, Holzer Diabetic Educator, Holzer Medical Center of Gallia, Holzer Nutrition Services, Holzer Orthotics, Hometown Medical Supplies, Ohio Valley Home Health, Pleasant Valley Hospital, University of Rio Grande Health Services and more.
