Rio Grande to host Voice Students Recital
November 4, 2013
RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Voice students at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College have created a unique concert of popular musical theatre delivered through unconventional means.
The Voice Students Recital will feature famous show tunes performed by the opposite sex for which they were originally written. The 1-hour concert, free and open to the public, is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 in the Berry Fine & Performing Arts Center.
“The students came up with this idea last year and have enjoyed putting it together,” Professor Valerie Tanner said. “The beauty of this genre is that you can perform the solos in many different venues, but here we’ve changed it up a bit to challenge the performers.”
Among the scheduled performances is “If I can’t Love Her” from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Written for the male role of Beast, the song will be performed by soprano Aryn Gritter.
Other Rio students scheduled to perform include Andy Knipp, Brooke Wolni, Ally Waddell and Stephanie Cartmell.
