Masterworks Chorale set for Fall Concert

November 15, 2013

RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The unifying power of music takes center stage with the Masterworks Chorale Fall Concert on Sunday, Nov. 24 at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College.

The concert will feature a variety of musical works from the Classical to Modern eras in music, both sacred and secular. Highlights will include a Russian work featuring basso profundo soloist Vinton Rankin, and a medley of folk tunes from the Red River Valley.

The performance, scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Berry Fine & Performing Arts Center, is free and open to the public.

“These pieces are both unique and enjoyable for the chorus and audience alike,” Masterworks Chorale Director Sarin Williams said. “I am so proud of the work the Masterworks Chorale is doing this semester. Audiences will find this a memorable event.”

The 20-member chorale is comprised of Rio Grande students, faculty, staff and community members for a unique multi-generational collection of talent and experience.

Members include Mike Addleman, Cody Allen, Stephanie Cartmell, Margaret Evans, Jennifer Gompf, Tom Gooch, Aryn Gritter, Marlene Hoffman, Evelyn Kirkhart, Andy Knipp, Judy Linder, Jordan Lombardo, Goldie McKenzie, Leslie Shoecraft, Nikki Smith, Ally Waddell, Duane Will, Brooke Wolni, Tim Zito and Rankin.

“This is the second year that I’ve been doing this,” said Kirkhart, who resides in Thurman. “I think it’s just super. Here I am at 80 years old being able to do these things with students who are just starting out their musical careers.”

The Masterworks Chorale caters to multiple generations within both its membership and audience largely due to the work of Director Williams, Kirkhart said.

“I’ve lived here about 20 years and had the pleasure to get to know many of the different musical directors,” Kirkhart said. “Sarin does an especially great job with it.”

The concert will feature folk tunes paired with four canons by Samuel Barber against a Russian work, and a Classical Te Deum by Czerny.
