Jazz Ensemble set for historic Fall concert
November 16, 2012
RIO GRANDE, Oh. – The Rio Grande Jazz Ensemble has delighted music enthusiasts since 1993, but Tuesday’s Fall concert promises something fans have never heard before.
“Most Jazz combos have a piano as part of their rhythm section. This semester we’re using a guitar since we don’t have any piano students,” ensemble Director and University of Rio Grande Music Professor Chris Kenney said. “This will be the first time without any piano in the ensemble.”
The annual Fall concert is schedule for 8 p.m. in the Berry Fine and Performing Arts Center located on the Rio Grande campus.
The performance will feature the talents of Tyler Phillips, alto saxophone; Justine Baker, tenor saxophone; Ryan Homeier, trombone; Jeremy Martin, bass; Skylar Thompson, drums; and Anthony Forgey. Kenney also will perform on guitar for some songs.
