Testing Services

The University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College Testing Service's Mission is to accurately administer and provide quality services in a secure, comfortable testing environment for students, faculty and the community while maintaining NCTA Professional Standards and Guidelines. Normal testing hours are 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Please check with www.rio.edu for the university's status during inclement weather. The New Student Advising Office, Testing and Career Services will be open if the university is open.

Beginning with Spring Semester '15,  a 24-hour/1day notice and an appointment are required for the administration of all exams.

Testing Services are offered for the following:

Placement Exam (Math / English)

Currently, the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College uses Accuplacer for math placement and an "in-house" writing sample for English placement. Individuals who would like to review their math skills prior to testing, may visit the following site for practice: http://www.accuplacerpracticetest.com/accuplacer-elementary-algebra-practice-test/.  These tests help ensure the proper skill level at which a student is placed into his or her courses. Placement Exams take approximately 1 1/2 hours to complete and are administered Monday - Thursdays at 9a.m., 11a.m. and 1p.m. To schedule an appointment for a Placement Exam please contact the New Student Advising Office, Testing and Career Services at 740.245.7279.

Comira is a full service testing company for licensure, certification, assessment and educational testing programs and one of the most trusted computer-based testing providers in the industry. 

Faculty Make-Up Exams

This make-up test service is offered to assist both the student and instructor with regular make up exams and special accommodation testing.

GED - gedtestingservice.com

The GED® test is a four-subject high school equivalency test that measures skills required by high schools and requested by colleges and employers. The four subjects are Science, Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, and Reasoning Through Language Arts. To register and schedule for a "GED" exam please log in at their website.

GMAT - www.mba.com

A standardized test that helps business schools assess the applicants for advanced study in business and management. To register and schedule for a "GMAT" exam please log in at their website.

The ParaPro Assessment is a test developed by Educational Testing Service (ETS) to test the knowledge and skills of education paraprofessionals. For information and exam registration please visit their website at https://www.ets.org/parapro.

Pearson Vue Certification Exams - www.pearsonvue.com

Computer-based testing for IT, academic, government and professional testing programs. To register and schedule for a "Pearson Vue" exam please log in at their web site.


 The American College Test (ACT) - www.act.org

This is a national test that measures academic aptitude and readiness to enter college. The National ACT results are applicable to any institution of higher education. To register and schedule for a "National ACT Test" please log in at their web site.

Residual ACT - www.act.org 

An ACT Test whereas the scores are only reported to the examines' institution. Scores cannot be used for scholarship  purposes or athletic eligibility.

A 60-day period between residual tests is mandatory. Students can register and pay for the "Residual ACT" by visiting the New Student Advising Office, Testing and Career Services in Room 115 of the James A. Rhodes Student Center.

This test allows one to choose any of the 33 exams offered. Please visit the college board website listed above for a list of exams offered.
