The Madog Center library has many resources to aid those researching their family history and Welsh ancestors. The Welsh who settled in this area during the ":Welsh tide" kept accurate records through their churches and also in newspapers and Welsh periodicals. While we cannot do your research for you, if you have a Welsh ancestor who lived in Jackson or Gallia Counties, we will help to direct you to the resources we may have that might help you locate information about them.
We use Ancestry.com here and recommend it for those seeking to connect with others who share your family line. We also work with the Gallia County Historical Society as they keep some family histories, and the Gallia County Genealogical Society. There is a Jackson County Genealogical Society we can recommend and also the Carriage House Genealogical Center at the Lillian Jones Museum in Jackson. They have some newspapers from Jackson County but they are only open limited hours. contact the Director at 740-286-2556 for more information.
We will work to add the list of family histories that we have here in our library so check back soon to see if your family is on our list. Feel free to send us a copy of your compiled family history if you have a local Welsh connection.
We also recommend the Wales/Ohio site through the National Library of Wales as they have digitized many resources on the immigration of the Welsh to all areas of Ohio.
