Find Articles
- How do you
locate magazine,
journal, or
newspaper articles
on a particular
topic?
If you know the
specific article you
are seeking or at
least the title and
date of the
publication in which
it appeared, then
you could search
RioCat to see if
that item is in our
library's
collection. However,
if this information
is not known, then
searching either
print or online
electronic indexes
using keywords
related to your
topic might yield
the results you
desire.
- Need older
articles?
Many of the
online electronic
indexes do not
include items dating
prior to the
mid-1980's. So,
consulting print
indexes might be a
better choice for
finding the
information you
want. (Please
Note: Most print
indexes DO NOT
CIRCULATE, so
you will have to
come to the library
to use them.
However, if a visit
to the Davis Library
is not an option,
please consider the
Locating Local
Library Resources
section found under
Other Information,
Resources & Links
for tips on finding
library materials
closer to home.
Then, you may also
use the
Ask Us feature
found throughout our
site to contact us
for help.)
- Hoping to
find articles
online?
Through
OhioLINK's Research
Databases
services, you have
access to over 70+
online electronic
indexes. These
electronic resources
list article
citations, abstracts
and in some cases,
an article's
Full Text, which
means the entire
text of a written
work may be brought
up on your
computer's desktop.
(See the
Finding Full Text
guide located in the
site's
Reference
section and the
Full Text Services
section for more
details on this
valuable feature.)
-
Search methods
and menus can vary
from database to
database. Some
pathfinders and
guides,
available through
the
Reference
section have been
prepared to help you
search certain
specific databases--e.g.,
PsycINFO,
ERIC, and
CINAHL. You may
also consult the
"Help" sections in
each of the
databases or see
OhioLINK's Help and
Hints section
for more search
tips. Then, if you
are really stuck, do
not hesitate to
contact us for help
using the
Ask Us feature
that appears
throughout our site.
(Please Note:
OhioLINK's Research
Databases do have
restricted access so
you must
login first
before using them
off campus.)
- So, the
article you want is
NOT available online
full text or the
journal/periodical
title you need is
NOT available
through the Davis
Library?
Don't fret!
Requests for
photocopies of
desired articles can
be made through our
Traditional
Interlibrary Loan
(ILL) services.
Use the online ILL
Article Request
Forms found under
the "Borrow" menu of
our site to make
these requests.
(Please Note: ILL
items usually takes
1-2 weeks to
process and
depending on the
lending institution,
a fee could be
assessed for their
use.)
- How do you
determine the status
of your ILL Article
Request?
You should be
contacted when your
ILL request is
available for
pick-up from the
Circulation Desk.
Any questions about
ILL services or your
ILL requests should
be directed to the
ILL Coordinator,
at
1-800-282-7201
extension 7321.
