Find a Book
- How do you find out
what books or other items
are available from the Davis
Library?
RioCat (Rio
Grande's Online Catalog)
contains detailed
information on all items in
the library's collection.
Book Basics, a guide
found in the
Reference section, also
provides some additional
information.
- What if the Davis
Library does NOT have the
item you want?
The
University of Rio Grande/Rio
Grande Community College
actively participates in the
OhioLINK (Ohio Library
and Information Network)
system. As a student,
faculty member or staff, you
may borrow library materials
from at least 75-80 other
institutions through the
OhioLINK Central Catalog
lending program. With links
to both
netLibrary and
OhioLINK now provides
access to several electronic
books or
eBooks. (See
eBooks or
Full Text Services for
more information.) Then,
desired items may also be
obtained through our
Traditional Interlibrary
Loan Services (ILL.)
- Wanting to borrow
items from the OhioLINK
Central Catalog?
To make your requests,
simply click in each of the
desired item's record where
it says, "REQUEST THIS
ITEM." Next, you'll be
prompted to identify the
institution with which you
are affiliated (use the
dropdown box to find and
select "Rio Grande CC.")
Once that information is
submitted, you'll be asked
to enter your name and
"Barcode," which is your
valid student or
faculty/staff identification
number. Remember only the
student I.D. numbers must be
preceded by the letter "S"--e.g.,
S123456. (See
Borrowing from OhioLINK
for complete details on
these procedures.)
- Where, when and how
do you get your OhioLINK
Central Catalog request?
Items requested will
usually be available for
pick-up and check-out within
2-3 working days at the
library's Circulation Desk.
Use the
VIEW YOUR OWN LIBRARY RECORD
option found in
RioCat to track your
requests. You may also
contact
Deborah Thompson,
Circulation Associate at
1-800-282-7201
extension 7005 or 7398 for
information on the status of
your
OhioLINK requests.
- What if the desired
item is NOT available
through the OhioLINK Central
Catalog?
Another resource
available through
OhioLINK that may be
used to find books is
WorldCat. This database
does have restricted access
so you will be required to
login when working from
off campus. (See the
OhioLINK Services
section under
Off Campus Access to
Restricted Resources for
more information.) With over
30 million cataloguing
records from thousands of
library collections world
wide, you should be able to
locate items not found in
either
RioCat or the
OhioLINK Central Catalog.
Book citation information
(e.g., author, title, and
publisher) from
WorldCat may then be
used to borrow items through
our
Traditional InterLibrary
Loan Services (ILL).
- How do Traditional
Interlibrary Loan Services
(ILL) work?
Just complete the
appropriate online ILL
request form found under our
site's "Borrow" menu for
each item you want.
(Please Note: ILL items
usually takes 1-2 weeks
to process. Also, depending
on the lending institution,
a fee could be assessed for
their use.)
You should be contacted
when your ILL request is
available for pick-up and
check-out from the
Davis Library. Any
questions about ILL services
or your ILL requests should
be directed the
ILL Coordinator, at
1-800-282-7201
extension 7321.
- Does the Davis
Library provide home
delivery of library
materials to the
University's Distance
Learners?
Unfortunately, the answer
is "NO." With the exception
of
eBooks, you must come to
the library to obtain all
the library materials
discussed here.
OhioLINK does enable
patrons to designate
alternate pick-up locations
at other OhioLINK
institutions, which may help
some. See
Other Useful Information,
Resources & Links for
some suggestions on finding
some alternative resources.
You may find sections such
as,
Locating Local Library
Resources,
eBooks and
Online Book Vendors
helpful. Then, anytime you
have a question or need
personal assistance, use the
Ask Us feature to
contact us for help.
- What is the loan
period for items borrowed?
Circulation policies for
library materials vary
depending on the types of
items borrowed. (See the
"Library Services/Policies"
section under our site's
"Borrow" menu for more
information.)
