Student Accounts
New accounts must be activated on first use.
New Accounts
Every Rio Grande student will have a RioNET account provisioned for them automatically upon his or her first registration in classes. Admissions Office Orientation and Post Secondary Education Option students will have accounts created just prior to their day on campus for testing & advising. Campus Computing & Networking creates these accounts daily in the days surrounding these orientations and the early weeks of each term. As registrations settle out, account builds move to a weekly basis unless circumstances warrant fresh builds.
New User Guides are available for your reference!
Activation
RioNET accounts are provisioned with one-use default passwords. Use of an account requires changing the default password to a new "strong" password. Three methods can activate a student user account.
- Logging onto a RioNET connected (Windows) computer will prompt the user to change passwords on first login. Follow the screen prompts to select a new strong password, typed twice.
- An online web Password Portal page (https://password.rio.edu) is available for password changes and account activation via any Internet web browser.
- Users may contact the CC&N staff during business hours or by e-mailing support@rio.edu for password assistance.
Passwords
Strong passwords contain between 8 and 15 characters and have at least one numeral and one Upper Case Letter. It is also recommended to include a symbol, such as !@#$%^&*... As more strict passwords become required, re-use of passwords will be prohibited as well as using named and user names. It is highly recommended that the same password not be used over and over for multiple accounts. If one account is compromised, then all accounts are at risk.
