Transfer Student Checklist

  • Submit an application for admission and indicate that you are a transfer student
  • Complete your application online at www.rio.edu/admissions and follow the guidelines.
  • Request transcripts from previous institutions
  • Have official transcripts sent directly from each college or university you have attended. If you have completed less than an associate degree, have your high school forward an official high school transcript.
  • Visit campus ---It is highly recommended that you visit the campus. Contact the Admissions Office at 1-800-282-7201 or online at admission@rio.edu to schedule a visit or go to www.rio.edu/admissions to see our visitation day schedule. Rio Grande has a beautiful campus; over 80% of the prospective students who visit choose Rio Grande.
  • Receive transfer credit evaluation---Soon after your admission, you will receive notification of the credits that have been transferred. If you have questions about how your transfer credits apply toward major course requirements, please make arrangements to meet with an advisor in the area of your intended major.
  • Complete the FAFSA (strongly recommended)---Complete and submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 for need-based financial aid consideration. You can submit the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Our school code is 003116.
  • Submit your housing registration form---Go to www.rio.edu/housing. From there you can access all the necessary forms to complete your housing application.
  • Attend an orientation session---Sign up with the Admissions Office to attend orientation and pre-register for classes. http://www.rio.edu/orientation/
  • Send final transcripts---Be sure to have final transcripts sent directly from your recent institution.
  • Start classes
  • Pack your bags; you are moving to Rio Grande! Congratulations!
